Clubs & Societies

Goldsborough and Flaxby have many interest groups, both sporting and non-sporting, from golf and cricket to history and social. Whatever your interest they would be glad for you to come along and enjoy. Details can be found in this section of the website

The Golf Society

New to the village? Why not join GFGS, the Goldsborough and Flaxby Golf Society. You don’t even need to play golf and an official golf handicap is not necessary. We run up to 15 golfing and social events every year which include a summer BBQ, a Cheese and Wine evening, Autumn Quiz and Winter Lunch and we’ve had a golf outing trip to the sea-side.

If you are interested in joining for either golf or the social side, please contact the secretary, Lance Ogden on the email link below. All correspondence is strictly confidential and complies with data protection regulations.

The History Society

Get involved and discover the depth of history of this part of Yorkshire

All those who enjoy the history surrounding Goldsborough and Flaxby are welcome, as are those in Hopperton and Coneythorpe, some of whom have now also expressed an interest.

We have a variety of interests amongst us, and 16 of us met recently at The Bay Horse to share knowledge and discuss old maps and photographs, all on the theme of Goldsborough and Flaxby villages. This included the Hall, church, census, school, old maps and architectural features. Many people have done all kinds of research themselves and it was fun to compare and contrast and get to know folk a bit better. We will meet again in October. If you are interested, please email

The Women’s Institute

Meets on the first Thursday of each month in the Cricket Paviullion, starting at 7.30 pm.. We aim to have a speaker, demonstrator or entertainment at each meeting and full details of the forthcoming programme are displayed on the noticeboard in each village. The Institute Jubilee celebrations included a splendid ‘posh’ afternoon tea for members and their guests, and the two Quiz events held in the Bay Horse Inn were well attended and proved very successful. The summer programme started with a moving account of lost family history, given by one of our own members. There will have been advice on wildlife in the garden in July and in August, a return visit by Veronica Bird talking of her experiences as a prison officer. New members and visitors are most welcome.
